Patient Information FAQ
❇️ Your First Visit
What happens at my first dental visit?
Your first visit usually includes a thorough dental exam, digital X-rays (as needed), a review of your health history, and time to discuss your goals and concerns with your dentist. When appropriate, we also complete a professional cleaning at this visit. Learn more on our First Visit page.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card (if applicable), a list of medications, and any previous X-rays or records if you have them. Completing your New Patient Forms online before your visit helps us start on time.
How early should I arrive?
If your forms are completed online, arriving 5–10 minutes early is usually enough. If you still need to fill out paperwork in the office, we recommend arriving 15–20 minutes before your scheduled time.
Will I get my teeth cleaned at my first visit?
In many cases, yes. For most new patients without complex gum issues, we can complete a preventive cleaning at the same visit. If you need more advanced periodontal care, we may schedule a separate visit to give you the best result. Learn more about our Exams & Cleanings.
How long will my first appointment take?
Most first visits last about 60–90 minutes, depending on whether we take X-rays, complete a cleaning, and discuss treatment options. We always schedule enough time so you never feel rushed.
❇️ Forms & Registration
Where can I complete my New Patient Forms?
You can complete all New Patient Forms online through our secure portal: Patient Registration. Filling these out before your visit helps us start your appointment on time.
Are my online forms secure and private?
Yes. Our online forms are transmitted through secure, encrypted systems designed to protect your personal and health information in compliance with privacy regulations. Your information is used only for your care at ProCare Family Dental.
Can I complete forms in the office instead?

❇️ Technology & No-Drill Dentistry
How do you make dental visits more comfortable?
Our team uses gentle techniques, thorough communication, and modern technology to help reduce noise, vibration, and discomfort. We take time to listen and adjust to your comfort level at every step. Learn more on our Advanced Technology page.
What is “no-drill dentistry”?
“No-drill” or minimally invasive dentistry uses advanced tools and techniques to remove decay and prepare teeth with less vibration and noise than traditional drills. This can help create a calmer, more comfortable experience. Explore our No-Drill Dentistry page for details.
What types of technology do you use?
We use modern diagnostic and treatment tools such as digital imaging and other advanced equipment to improve accuracy, comfort, and efficiency. Your dentist will explain which technologies are recommended for your specific treatment.
Can you help if I’m anxious about dental treatment?
Absolutely. Many patients feel nervous about dental care. We move at your pace, explain each step, and use a gentle approach to help you feel more at ease. Please let us know if you are anxious so we can plan extra comfort measures for you.
❇️ Emergency Dental Care
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe tooth pain, swelling, dental infections, knocked-out teeth, broken teeth, or lost crowns and fillings can all be dental emergencies. If you’re not sure, call us and we’ll help you decide the best next step. Learn more on our Emergency Dental Care page.
Do you offer same-day emergency appointments?
Yes — whenever possible, we reserve time for same-day emergency visits to relieve pain and address urgent issues quickly. Call us at PROCARE FAMILY DENTAL Phone Number (847) 965-6223 and we will do our best to see you as soon as possible.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Handle the tooth by the crown (top), not the root, and gently rinse if needed. If possible, place it back in the socket or in a container of milk or saliva. Call our office right away for instructions and an emergency visit.
When should I call 911 or go to the ER instead?
For life-threatening symptoms — such as difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding, severe facial trauma, or suspected broken jaw — call 911 or go directly to the nearest hospital emergency room. We can help you with follow-up dental care after you are medically stable.
❇️ Privacy & Office Policies
How do you protect my privacy and health information?
We follow strict privacy standards to protect your personal and health information. Your records are stored securely, and information is shared only as needed for your care, insurance processing, or as required by law.
Can I request copies of my dental records or X-rays?
Yes. If you need copies of your records or X-rays, please contact our front office. We’ll provide the appropriate release forms and let you know how and when your records will be sent.
Who can make decisions for a child or dependent patient?
A parent, legal guardian, or authorized representative must be present to review treatment recommendations, consent to care, and discuss financial arrangements for minors or dependent patients.
Do you use text or email to communicate about my care?
With your permission, we may use text or email for appointment reminders and non-sensitive updates. Clinical details are generally discussed by phone or in person to best protect your privacy.
